Obligations of Owner/Occupier - Guideline

If you are the owner, or a business or person, that is occupying, or managing a building in Queensland you have legal obligations to ensure the safety of any person in that building in the event of a fire or other emergency.

The main objective of the legislation is to ensure that people can evacuate safely and quickly from a building in the event of fire or emergency and to ensure that required fire safety installations for the building are maintained so that they can operate in the way that they were originally intended.

The onus is on you to provide:

*  Means of Escape from Buildings;

*  Evacuation Planning, Instruction & Practice

*  Maintenance of fire safety installations.

*  Record Keeping and Approval Documentation.

We recommend the use of the QFES Fire Safety Management Tool to assist in recognising how you may remain compliant
